bermuda dunes STR Rules & Regulations

Approximately 120 permitted Short-Term Rentals are currently operating in Bermuda Dunes, CA.  Investors interested in purchasing an STR should carefully review the complete Riverside County STR Ordinance and the Good Neighbor Brochure to understand the regulations and guidelines in place.


Operating Short-Term Rentals (STRs) is currently prohibited within the Bermuda Dunes Country Club. However, in the Unincorporated area of Temecula, specifically Temecula Valley Wine Country, STRs can be operated.


  • To operate an STR in Bermuda Dunes, a Short-Term Rental Permit is required.  However, it's important to note that STR Permits are not transferrable, meaning they cannot be transferred from one owner to another.  It's vital to recognize that the issuance of an STR permit rests solely within the jurisdiction of Riverside County, subject to its discretion on timing and eligibility.


  • The county is still issuing new STR permits for recently purchased properties.  As a new STR owner, it is necessary to apply for an STR permit as a new applicant.


  • Before an STR permit can be issued, a Property Safety Inspection is required.  This inspection ensures the safety and compliance of the property.  The STR application process typically takes approximately 7 days to complete.


  • It is crucial for the Short-Term Rental owner or their designated agent to be available 24/7, ensuring prompt response to any complaints within 60 minutes.  This contributes to a positive guest experience and addresses any concerns efficiently.


  • Regarding occupancy limits, the maximum number of occupants for a Short-Term Rental shall be the lesser of two persons per bedroom, with an additional person allowed in the Short-Term Rental, or a total of ten persons.  This ensures a comfortable and safe experience for all occupants.
